Default Questions and Answers thread

I'm just making this so I can post quick questions without having to make an entire thread over it. I'll also be asking for price checks on items probably.

Anyone else can post their questions too and lets hope most of them get answered.

Okay so here goes.

1. Is this true?

Quote:
And no, armor doesn't stack. Because GW uses a detection mechanism that determines where you are getting hit. So if you have a torso armor that is armor 80, but boots that are only 60 armor. Then if you get hit in the feet, you feel more pain.
If it's true is there a way to tell what kind of attacks or spells hit what part of armor. So like if an elemental attack hits the head mostally I could use armor with +ele defence.

2. How does armor work in gw. Is there some kind of equation?

3. What is a superior vigor rune worth.

Double post content:

4. Do all weapons of the same class have the same speed? (IE a long sword and dragon sword have the same speed because they're both swords)

1. Yes, armor is location based, so total armor means little next to armor per piece. It works like a lot of PnP rpgs, any time a hit is landed. Location of body part, is then rolled. The armor found on that part then modifies how much you take.

2. Armor seems to work like absorbtion from DAoC if you played that. It isn't modifying if you can or will be hit. Simply how much you are going to take per hit. Been too lazy to read packets thus far, so as to the precise formula I can't yet say.

3. Whatever someone will pay for it.

4. Fairly sure each weapon type has it's own speed. The weapons themselves don't. I COULD BE VERY WRONG IN THIS, PLEASE CORRECT IF SO.

I'll borrow your thread MCS for a question...

When changing world from Europe to US, does my characters come with me too? Or do I have to make new characters there?

Go to the dye trader and see how much their selling it for then ask a little less than that.

I don't think the dye trader sells silver, I'll just ask around.

1) Armor is location-based, and there are several factors in determining where something will hit: Meteor or Firestorm is most likely to hit you in the head, Hamstring will hit your legs, Earthquake or eruption will probably hit your feet. Regular attacks seem to be more random, but your chest and legs are more likely to be hit than your feet or arms(which is probably why those armor pieces cost more to craft). Armor provided by a shield gives you extra armor versus attacks that come from in front of you- it won't help against someone hitting you from the side or back.

2)Ensign has provided a nice article on how damage and armor is calculated. Hopefully this will answer most of your questions.

3)Superior Vigor runes are worth a lot- probably several thousand gold, though I'm not really a good person to ask about prices. Since a Superior Vigor rune is good for any character, and they're rather rare, you'll probably be able to set your own price, so long as it's somewhat reasonable.

4) Most weapon types have set speeds- for instance, all swords will attack every 1.33 seconds if I remember correctly. The exception is bows, where different types of bows have different attack speeds and ranges. A shortbow attacks faster than a long bow, but has a shorter range.

Nostrau: Your characters will stay with you- they're tied to your account, and the world is all the same- no different shards or anything.

5) Yeah, the trader sells silver and even black dye. A good method (I think) for figuring out how much to sell dye for is to go to the trader get a quote on what they'll sell the color for and advertise it at 50 gold less. You get 50 gold more than if you sold it to the trader directly, since they operate on a 100 gold markup, and other players have some incentive to buy from you, since they get a discount over buying it from the npc.
